Restarting habits

We finally got COVID-19. It kicked our butts. I spent four days in bed, coughed for over a week, and two weeks on, still feel fatigued. Thankfully, I’ve been able to start going on slow walks around our neighbourhood and in our local shopping centre.

Our daily rhythms shift when we are ill. For me, it’s a change to catch up on my anime and fantasy watch list. To catch up on podcasts. To sit on the couch, drink a lot of coffee, and not do much at all.

As a daily routine, I really enjoy it. A lot. I quickly get used to it. Wake up, have a coffee, watch a podcast. Shower. Watch fantasy/anime for hours. Have another coffee. Have lunch. More TV. Read. Bath/shower. Bed. Life is great.

I get too used to it, too quickly. Now, as I’ve recovered, I’m looking towards the next few days. Towards walks. Towards stretching and foam rolling. To getting back to the gym. To going on some hikes and climbs. That’s a lot of effort though. Just watch more anime, my mind tells me. It’s fun. It certainly is. At the same time, it’s not what I should be doing all of the time, nor what I ought to be doing.

So I’m restarting all of my habits ready to move back towards the standard of a healthy life. The alarm is back on. I will foam roll and stretch. I’ll go back to the gym. I’ll have my coffee and read and write. I’ll back a health lunch for work and eat a nutritious dinner. I’ll stretch in the evening. I’ll use reminders on my phone to help for the first week or two. Time to reboot and rebuild.
